Viva Glitz and Pearl Encore!

We are very excited to announce that we have introduced two amazing new yarns at the TNNA 2012 in Columbus, OH

Viva Glitz is our new rayon and metallic yarn, which has amazing hand, subtle sparkles and vibrant colors!

Pearl is a fine wool yarn with small diamonds inside. You will love this yarn for the richness it adds to your garments!

Pearl will come in variegated and solid tones.

We have more new yarns to announce, but these were the ones that I really wanted to blog about, so keep following!

FESTIVAL WHITE SWAN SCARF

This scarf, first premiered in Feb of this year, was a big hit. Fashioned off of the scarf worn by Natalie Portman in the Academy Award winning film,Black Swan, (See photo at the bottom of this entry.) it was launched on ‘Tuned into Knitting Daily TV’ (KDTV’s blog) where over 5,000 people have downloaded it to-date.

I love listing a pattern on Ravelry because it enables us the FOs of knitters, something that a designer/yarn company doesn’t always get the chance to do. The White Swan Scarf is one of my favourites to check up on.

People have made it out of all different types of yarns, some have chosen to not add the fringe, some made it wider, some made it shorter, someone even adapted it to make it a moebius! – but everyone said the same thing- It knit up so so quickly and easily. Most spoke of making another.

Here’s some of the nice things people who have made the scarf had to say about it on Ravelry to inspire you to “whip” one up tonight.

This took 6hrs to make. I used stash, 100 yards.

Love this! Can’t wait to make one for myself with another yarn from the stash.

I like the way the scarf turned out and I know I will wear it a lot.

Decided against fringe just because I liked the main pattern so much!

I’ve made 3 of these.

Saw this scarf and vowed that I’d have it. It’s so fanciful and pretty.

This is a great scarf to whip up fast. I would not change anything.

SCARF BODY
Using US # 11 needles, OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE, CO 16 sts.
Row 1-6: Knit.
Row 7: *K1, (yo) four times, repeat from * to end of row.
Row 8- *K1, drop all yarn overs from the previous row, repeat from * to end of row. Pull to draw out elongated stitches.
Repeat Rows 3-8 until piece measures approx. 96” from CO edge., ending on Row 8. Work in Garter st for five rows, binding off all sts on the third row.

Note from the Designer: Count the number of times Rows 3-8 are repeated. This will help you know how many lengths of yarn to cut for the finishing steps.

FINISHING
Weave in all loose ends.

Body Fringe-
Using tape measure and scissors cut 4 lengths of yarn 12” long, for each repetition of Rows 3-8.
*Insert the US G crochet hook under the first four elongated stitches pulled free in the first repetition of Row 8; take two strands of the 12” long yarn, fold them in half over the hook and draw through a loop. Pass the loose ends over the hook and draw through the loop on
the hook. Tighten the knot so that it is placed at roughly the middle point of the elongated stitches. Repeat this process with the last four elongated stitches on this same row.
Moving up to the next set of elongated stitches, insert the US G crochet hook under the 5th through 8th stitches; take two strands of the 12” long yarn, fold them in half over the hook and draw through a loop. Pass the loose ends over the hook and draw through the loop on the hook. Tighten the knot so that it is placed at roughly the middle point of the elongated stitches. Repeat this process with the 9th through 12th stitches elongated stitches on this same row.
Repeat from * until every elongated stitch row has strands of yarn tied to two sets of four elongated stitches.

Edge Fringe-
Using tape measure and scissors cut the remaining yarn in the skein into 25” lengths of yarn.
Insert the US G crochet into the corner of the CO edge; take three strands of the 25” long yarn, fold them in half over the hook and draw through a loop. Pass the loose ends over the hook and draw through the loop on the hook. Tighten the knot. Repeat this process, placing another fringe knot every 1” along the CO edge, ending at the other corner. (Four fringe knots of three 25” long strands placed). Repeat this process along the BO edge.
*Insert the US G crochet into the first stitch of the first row above the first elongated stitch row above the CO edge; take one strand of the 25” long yarn, fold them in half over the hook and draw through a loop. Pass the loose ends over the hook and draw through the loop on the hook. Tighten the knot. Repeat this process on the final stitch of this same row.
Repeat from * twice more, each time moving to the row the next set of elongated stitches.
Repeat from * on the opposite (BO) end.

ALP ORIENTAL *CROCHETED* YOGA MAT BAG

ALP ORIENTAL *CROCHETED* YOGA MAT BAG

You didn’t think we’d forget about our crochet customers this week, did you!? Our number three free single skein pattern this week is the Alp Oriental Crocheted Yoga Mat Bag.

In Monday’s entryI spoke about Alp Orientals fibre content and texture. Today let’s talk more crochet!

Several months back we were lucky enough to meet with the Crochet Liberation Front to show them some our yarns and get feedback on how they worked for crocheted objects. About Alp Oriental they said-

The Alp yarns were my favorite simply because I enjoyed seeing what yarn would come next, and how it would look in the design.

Check out the full review of Feza Yarns on their website: Crochet Uncut and try out this very simple and function yoga mat bag so you too can appreciate the colourful fun in “unwrapping” a ball of Alp Oriental.

STRAP
Using US N crochet hook, OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE, CH 36.
Rnd 1- 1 sc in each st to end of row.
Work Rnd 1 four times total. Cut yarn and fasten off.
FINISHING
Using a tapestry needle, attach one end of the vertical edge of the strap to the top of
the bag so that the PM left is centred between the four rows. Attach the other vertical edge
of the strap to the bottom of the bag, approx. 2 rows above the first occurrence of Rnd 6,
and making sure that the PM left there is also centred between the four rows of that edge.
Weave in all loose ends.
Fold the 5/8th ribbon in half along its horizontal plane. Starting at the stitch directly
below the top of the strap (open end of the bag), weave the ribbon under the first sc, and
over the second sc. Continue in this way until the ribbon has been woven around the entire
top of the open end of the bag and is back at stitch directly below the top strap. Tighten and tie into a bow to secure the yoga mat inside the bag.
